Music at Immanuel |
Music is a rich part of worship at Immanuel, through congregational hymnody, liturgy, and music offerings from groups that include Adult Choir, Bell Choir, Immanuel Brass, seasonal Children's Choir and other occasional ensembles and soloists. Learn more about these ministries below and sign up for e-mail updates about music events at Immanuel.
Adult choir
Members and non-members of Immanuel who wish to celebrate thier gift of
singing are welcome to join Immanuel's Adult Choir. Continuing in the
choral tradition of the Lutheran Church, the choir focuses on assisting
with worship leadership and providing musical and spiritual enrichment
for both its singers and the congregation.
Bell choir The Immanuel handbell choir provides its musical ministry during worship once each month. Although some existing musical skills are required, participation is open to interested musicians of all ages. The bell choir generally plays anthems based on congregational hymns appropriate for the liturgical season. Practices are held the Saturday prior to Sunday worship.
Children’s choir The Immanuel Children's Choir is open to children in grades 3 and older. The first session takes place beginning in mid-October and culminating in the choir singing for an Advent Sunday worship service in December. The second session begins the week following Ash Wednesday and ends with the children singing for Maundy Thursday evening worship and again during Sunday worship usually 3 weeks after Easter Sunday. Rehearsals take place on Wednesday evenings.
Alleluia Music and Arts Alleluia Music and Arts is a weekly session for children pre-school through 6th grade to learn about worship. Students are exposed to hymns, current worship themes, corresponding classic art works, portions of liturgy—all presented appropriately for each age group. These sessions are not designed to take the place of worship, but are meant to introduce and explain what will be happening during worship. These classes take place during the last 20 minutes of Sunday School each week. Sunday worship at Immanuel should not exclude our children. Alleluia Music and Arts is equipping our children to be active participants in Sunday worship.
Vespers Four Sunday evenings a year, Immanuel celebrates Vespers (service of Evening Prayer) featuring a cantata of J.S. Bach. This opportunity to enjoy Bach’s work in its native setting of worship is enhanced by the orchestra, choir and soloists gathered especially for these services. Vespers is a musically rich, yet reflective experience of worship. Each Vespers is followed by a reception at which worshippers and musicians enjoy fellowship. For more information on the series, or to take part as a vocalist or instrumentalist, please contact our organist, Ted Stewart. |
